Cake Talks has humble beginnings - born out of the loneliness and boredom of an expat mom of triplets in Oman, who had no clue where I could order a delicious, home-made cake for the girls’ first birthday in their new home.

With the little knowledge I had helping out my dear friend and mentor, Suraiya Hazari, with her cakes while residing in Qatar, and the talent I secretly believe I inherited over my siblings from my extremely talented father, a chef himself - Atha Mahmoud, I decided to bake the cake myself! And much to my delight, and the surprise of all my guests, the birthday cake turned out a crowd favorite!! Thus was born "The Cakeist"

With the support of family and friends who placed their trust in this novice baker for their special functions, word got out about the new baker in town! I decided to take it one step ahead and dived into the world of Social Media, with my first business page on Facebook, and CakeTalks Muscat – Where like-minded bakers shared secrets of the trade, tips and tricks.

This further fueled my love for baking cakes: I wanted to test myself, see where I stood in this baking world, and unable to find that space, I decided to create one of my own! I discovered that there were many women out there just like me, all their talent hidden away, with no platform to showcase it on, their dreams wilting. With 300 OMR, and the help of my two dear friends in the industry, Cassie and Reena, I reached out to Lurpak and Betty Crocker on a whim, for sponsorship for this crazy dream I had, for Oman’s first ever cake exhibition and competition! Imagine my delight when they agreed...

Fast forward a few years, I can proudly say that this dream I had, and made a reality, has been the stepping stone for many women to start up their own very successful businesses. All it takes for a dream to come true, is your faith in it, and how far you’re willing to go to make it come true, and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise...

like The Cakeist always says – Build the dream, and the dream will build you!
